And so it begins. Ryan Silverfield has been on the job at Arkansas for several months, but in many ways, a coach's baptism in the SEC truly occurs at SEC media days. Silverfield took the stage for the first time as Arkansas football coach. He handled media row, talking to various outlets. He stood at the podium and gave a speech. This was Ryan Silverfield's true "welcome to the SEC" moment. Here are various Silverfield quotes from his media tour and public remarks:

"It's our job as a staff and as a program where this time next year, we're not talking about negative results from the year before. We're saying, 'Wow, you've got this program heading in the right direction.' … I've got to get people to quit looking their rearview mirror."

*

"I don't want the recent negativity, the recent past, to have any reflection on what we're doing moving forward."

*

"I don't think our players need that (negative media attention/chatter) as motivation. We're not one of those guys who need bulletin board material… I can promise you when we were running in that Arkansas heat yesterday, they weren't thinking of the bulletin board material."

*

"I landed a hot wife that's very smart and I've got two beautiful daughters and I'm the head coach of an SEC program. … I've got enough aura. I don't even know what the hell (aura) means. I don't have a lot of fashion sense. Either Kyle or my wife dress me and then I figure it out from there. I got aura. I'm cooler than a polar bear's toenails."

*

"The cupboard's not bare, we got two guys that are capable, but that QB situation is one we're going to let stretch because they're really neck and neck."

*

"That's fine, keep doubting me. Yeah what was my record against teams in this league again?" (Reporter says 5-1.) "Ok thank you. I won’t throw a podium at you.”

*

On the Utah-Georgia schedule, including the start times for those games: "I’m not going to complain about anything. If they say we are playing at 6 a.m. we will be there. Player safety means the most to me and I’m glad we have someone fighting for our program."

*

“There’s not a lot of hogwash with me. You don’t do this for 28 years at every level and BS a bunch of people.”

*

"“We have 7 or 8 offensive linemen that can play at a high level in the SEC… I’ve got confidence in this offensive line, especially what they can do in the run game.”

*

On defensive coordinator Ron Roberts: “He has a great understanding of the scheme… I have a lot of faith that we’ll get this defense turned around.”

*

On his plan to revive Arkansas football: “I have to execute it. But we have success in all these other sports. We can do it in football as well. We have a lot to offer in Northwest Arkansas.”

To be clear, this is not every single word Silverfield uttered, but it covers a lot of ground. We will have more from Silverfield and those assessing him. Stay with us at Razorback Roundtable.
