As Alabama football prepares for Oklahoma and the first round of the College Football Playoff, Ryan Williams said the offense is focused on “executing the simple.”
“Making simple plays simple,” Williams said. “Continuing to try to be the best ball security team, ball dominant team in the country.”
And Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson remains a part of that, someone Williams says he has full confidence in.
“Honestly, I mean, just resiliency,” Williams said when asked what he’s seen in Simpson since the SEC Championship Game loss to Georgia. “Mentally, physically, he’s just a guy. I wouldn’t rather have any quarterback in the country.”
Simpson has two straight games with less than a 55% completion percentage, combining for 334 yards, four touchdowns and an interception in his last two games against Auburn and Georgia.
Simpson has led an offense that has not scored more than 30 points agains an FBS team since Saturday, Oct. 18.
Williams said the Alabama skill players can do a better job at allowing Simpson to “survey the defense.”
“Getting lined up faster. … allowing him to make the checks that he needs to make and then making plays when he gives us the opportunity,” Williams said.
Alabama will take on Oklahoma in the first round of the CFP at 7 p.m. CT Friday, Dec. 19 on ABC and ESPN.
