COLUMBIA — Almost immediately after South Carolina football’s final game of the 2025 season, construction began on Williams-Brice Stadium.

The stadium renovation project has been in the works since long before November, as different aspects of the process got approval throughout the last year.

According to the university, the program will be completed in three phases between the 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028 football seasons, with the first phase aimed for a completion deadline of Sept. 5, 2026, the home opener.

What are the renovations at South Carolina’s football stadium?

South Carolina’s football stadium is getting an upgrade with a focus on four main improvements: stadium circulation, meaning how fans move around the stadium, concessions, bathrooms and the student section, which includes providing more amenities to current students.

In addition, an area of concern is that William-Brice Stadium is last in the SEC in the total premium seating percentage, according to the university, so this construction project will also increase the number of premium seats, clubs and suites.

“The revenues generated from these suites will help drive the future of Gamecock athletics,” said a news release from May.

The players will benefit from the project directly, as several parts of their new locker room will be new, including lockers, a recruiting lounge, new equipment rooms and other aspects to the game-day experience.

When will the Williams-Brice Stadium renovations be done?

The first phase, which will take place between now and the start of the 2026 season, will be focused on the student section and renovation of the general concourses.

Between the 2026 and 2027 seasons, the second phase will tackle premium seating areas between the 100-200 sections of the stadium.

In between the 2027 and 2028 seasons, the final phase will be focused on the southeast corner of the stadium.

South Carolina football stadium renovation update for winter 2025

The final home game was Nov. 29 and athletic director Jeremiah Donati sent an updated newsletter on Dec. 5, revealing the first steps and latest information regarding the project.

The demolition for the first phase already started, including the Southwest ramp, Floyd Building and demolition of the east ground level. Donati wrote that all “major demolition work” is expected to be done by Jan. 5.

When will Williams-Brice Stadium new locker rooms be done?

The new locker room aspect of the renovation project should be completed around 2027. The football team space is getting redesigned to include a new recruit lounge, equipment room, interview room, training room, a “player holding area,” a female coaches and trainers locker room and a male coaches and trainers locker room.

The visiting team locker room is getting moved to the southeast corner of the stadium, as well.

Who is designing the Williams-Brice Stadium renovations?

Populous, an architecture company/design firm, will lead the process of redesigning Williams-Brice Stadium, the school announced in May.

The company has designed projects for other SEC schools and athletic departments including Missouri, Texas, Oklahoma and Florida State.
