MADISON – The Wisconsin football program continued to rebuild its defensive line on Day 8 of the transfer portal.

Illinois State defensive lineman Jake Anderson became the Badgers’ 24th known commitment of this portal cycle on Friday, Jan. 9, and third defensive lineman.

Here is what you need to know about Anderson.

Anderson finished with 52 tackles that included 18 solo stops, 7 ½ tackles for a loss and three sacks in 17 games. He also had four quarterback hurries and one fumble forced and recovered for the Redbirds, who were the FCS runner-up.

He has played 42 games in his career with 145 tackles that include 19 tackles for a loss and seven sacks.

What is Jake Anderson’s height and weight?

Anderson was listed as 6-5 and 295 pounds on the Illinois State roster this season.

How many years of eligibility does Jake Anderson have left?

Anderson has one season of eligibility left. He was a redshirt in 2022.

What was Jake Anderson’s recruiting ranking?

247sports gave Anderson a two-star rating coming out of Durand (Ill.) High School and listed him as the No. 71 recruit in Illinois for the 2021 class. He received no stars as a transfer.

Rivals didn’t rate him in high school or as a transfer.

How can Jake Anderson help the Wisconsin Badgers?

A key to the Badgers defense is having big guys in the middle who can help control the line of scrimmage and defend the run. Wisconsin rotated four-six players at the position during games, so not only does the team need size but it needs a quantity of players at that size. Anderson provides that.  You also have to like his production, even though it will be difficult to keep that going at the FCS level. His durability is impressive, too. According to Pro Football Focus he played 1,780 snaps in three seasons.
