MADISON – Wisconsin added one of the top quarterbacks in the transfer portal when it signed Colton Joseph last week.
On Monday Jan. 12, the Badgers added to his list of potential weapons with the addition of Minnesota’s Malachi Coleman. He is the third receiver UW has added from the transfer portal and the 26th player the team has added overall. 247sports.reported his commitment.

How many catches did Malachi Coleman have this season?
Coleman caught five passes for 83 yards for the Gophers in eight games. He played at Nebraska as a true freshman where he made six starts and caught 11 passes for 139 yards and a touchdown in 2023. He had two catches for 32 yards for the Cornhuskers in a 24-17 overtime win for Wisconsin at Camp Randall Stadium that season.

Coleman was listed as 6-foot-5 and 200 pounds on the Minnesota roster this season.

Coleman has two years of eligibility left. He redshirted as a sophomore in 2024 while still at Nebraska.

Coleman received four stars from Rivals and 247sports while attending East High School in Lincoln, Nebraska. Rivals listed him as the No. 60 recruit in the 2023 class; 247sports rated him No. 63. He was rated as a three-star prospect for the transfer portal by both outlets.
How can Malachi Coleman help the Wisconsin Badgers?
Wisconsin has a growing number of players at receiver, but none has been a proven No. 1 receiver. Coleman has the has the tools to claim that role if he can regain the form that allowed him to start half of Nebraska’s games as a true freshman, when he played 335 snaps of offense. At the least, he raised the level of competition at the position and adds depth at what was one of Wisconsin’s thinnest positions before the portal opened.
