Nebraska running back Emmett Johnson has a big fan in UCLA interim head football coach Tim Skipper. In nine games this season, Johnson has run for 1,002 yards and ten touchdowns. That ranks him second in the nation for rushing yards. He also ranks second in the country in yards from scrimmage with 1,199 total yards.
Skipper started the season as a special assistant to then-head UCLA coach DeShaun Foster. Foster was dismissed following a 0-3 start to the season. Skipper has a record of 3-1 since taking over the Bruins. The interim head coach met with the Big Ten media earlier in the week and had high praise for Nebraska's junior running back.
"He’s a legitimate baller. He can do it all. When you think about running backs, you usually just think about the running but he’s a threat out of the backfield as a passcatcher too. No. 21 (Johnson) is going to be an emphasis for us. We have to know where he is at all times. He does a great job of making people miss. I’m really impressed by how he plays. I come from a family of running backs coach and I’ve watched a lot of backs and he’s one of the top guys I’ve ever seen."
The Nebraska Cornhuskers (6-3, 3-3) take the field on Saturday, Nov. 8, when they travel to California to face the UCLA Bruins (3-5, 3-2) at the Rose Bowl. The kickoff time is set for 8 p.m. CT and the game can be seen on Fox.
