What we learned from Week 2 of college football in the Big Ten

Week 2 of the 2026 college football season is now in the books! A loaded slate of action over the weekend featured massive upsets, stunning comebacks, rivalry battles, and much more.

So what did we learn in Week 2 with regard to the Big Ten? Here are a few takeaways from the conference’s second full week of action:

Reports of Michigan’s demise may have been greatly exaggerated

Remember last week, when we wrote that Michigan was cooked? Well the Wolverines promptly responded by pulling off the conference’s best win of the season to date, knocking off Oklahoma.

Oregon might have serious issues

Oregon’s loss at Oklahoma State was truly one of the most stunning college football upsets in recent memory. The Ducks’ season is certainly not over, but it would take a massive turnaround to recover from this.

Rutgers is on 0-12 watch

The only thing that the Scarlet Knights have going for them at this point is that they play an FCS opponent in two weeks—following this week’s matchup with USC. But Rutgers may very well go winless in Big Ten play this year.

Washington might not be very good

The Huskies have opened the season with two ugly wins over Pac-12 schools. They still have time to turn things around, but right now, this does not look like a Big Ten contender.

The bottom of the conference still has work to do

The Big Ten has established itself as the best conference in college football over the past three years, winning three consecutive national championships. While the top of the league has certainly done its part, however, the bottom of the conference is still not on the level of the bottom of the SEC—as clearly established by Mississippi State’s domination of Minnesota on Saturday.
