The Michigan Wolverines are 2-0 on the season, but both games have been close — winning 13-12 versus Western Michigan and 17-10 against Oklahoma.

Michigan currently ranks No. 105 in rushing offense, No. 127 in passing offense and No. 129 in fewest penalties. Some of Michigan’s struggles on offense can certainly be attributed to the offensive line — they’ve pass protected better than they have run blocked, but both areas need a lot of improvement. Quarterback Bryce Underwood has had his own struggles. Underwood is 21-of-39 for 281 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Michigan has had a lot of costly penalties on both sides of the ball. Michigan has 20 penalties for 170 yards — a shocking statistic considering head coach Kyle Whittingham made eliminating self-inflicted mistakes a point of emphasis heading into the season.
