Week 11 of the college football season provided some further clarity to the College Football Playoff picture while opening up questions regarding the 12-team field — specifically in the Big 12 and ACC.
That said, there are likely to be plenty of overreactions and debates for the next iteration of CFP rankings revealed by the selection committee, including which teams will be projected to earn first-round byes.
Why? No. 2 Indiana nearly experienced a massive upset at Penn State, while No. 4 Alabama relied on its defense to slog past LSU. Elsewhere, top-ranked Ohio State and No. 3 Texas A&M handled their business against conference opponents in Purdue and Missouri, respectively.
Of course, the second iteration of the CFP rankings won’t mean much in the grand scheme of things, with three weeks remaining in the regular season and conference championship games still left to finalize seedings. Remember, the only rankings that actually matter are the ones that will drop on Sunday, Dec. 7.

When do CFP rankings come out?
The next iteration of the College Football Playoff rankings will be released on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. This will be the second of five top 25 rankings released by the CFP selection committee every Tuesday through Dec. 2, all of which lead into the official rankings release on “Selection Sunday” on Dec. 7.
Here’s a full look at when the rankings for the 2025-26 College Football Playoff will be released:

- Tuesday, Nov. 18 (8:30 p.m. ET)
- Tuesday, Nov. 25 (7 p.m. ET)
