Where does Oklahoma land in ESPN's new 2027 team recruiting rankings?

The Oklahoma Sooners have worked hard to reel in a strong 2027 recruiting class. With head coach Brent Venables and general manager Jim Nagy leading the way, OU currently has 27 total commits, with 13 on offense, 14 on defense, and zero on special teams.

While Oklahoma's '27 haul has held steady for the past few weeks, there's been plenty of movement in recruiting circles during a busy month of July. With the regular season a little over a month away, ESPN's Craig Haubert took the opportunity to rank the top 25 current classes for the cycle in the country.

OU's class came in at No. 5 in the rankings, which was good for third-best in the SEC. According to ESPN, 12 of the 27 players currently pledged to OU fall within the SC Next 300.

"After a disappointing 2024, Brent Venables was able to steer the Sooners into the College Football Playoff in part thanks to the top defensive unit in the SEC. Working to build off last season's success, they continue to add talent that can help keep that unit a strength, especially in the front seven." – Craig Haubert, ESPN.

What's also impressive is that OU has built this solid class despite losing some players to the decommitment list. Oregon DL pledge Zane Rowe, Cal RB pledge Jaxsen Stokes, Cal WR pledge Demare Dezeurn, and Ole Miss WR pledge Tra'Von Hall were all once committed to Oklahoma.

There's still a long ways to go before the early signing period in December, but Venables and Nagy have a lot to be proud of with this 2027 class so far. At the same time, the duo will certainly be looking to add to the potential haul in the months to come.
