On Tuesday, EA Sports unveiled their overall team ratings for "College Football 27", the third entry in the return of college football video games after a long hiatus following "NCAA Football 14". Coming off a trip to the College Football Playoff last year, the Oklahoma Sooners figured to have a high rating.
EA Sports gave OU an 87 overall rating, which was tied with Georgia for the ninth-best in the game. Oklahoma also has the game's 10th-best offense, checking in at 87 on that side of the ball, and its 88 score on defense was tied for seventh-best in the country.
On offense, perhaps the Sooners got a generous rating from EA Sports, but there's optimism that this year could yield a much better unit than what Oklahoma put on the field in 2024 and 2025. Quarterback John Mateer returns, and he'll have an offensive line that returns four starters blocking in front of him. Both leading rushers, Xavier Robinson and Tory Blaylock, are back, as is leading receiver Isaiah Sategna III. OU upgraded their weapons with the transfer additions of Trell Harris and Parker Livingstone at WR, and Hayden Hansen and Rocky Beers at TE.
Defense is where OU figures to shine again, despite some key losses. The front should be strong, with the returns of Jayden Jackson, David Stone, Taylor Wein, Danny Okoye, and Adepoju Adebawore. At linebacker, Kip Lewis and Owen Heinecke are both back, and the Sooners also added Cole Sullivan from the portal. At the Cheetah spot, it's time for Reggie Powers III to shine. On the back end, Courtland Guillory, Eli Bowen, Peyton Bowen, and Michael Boganowski will look to confuse offenses.
Oregon had both the country's top overall rating and the top defense, while Ohio State had the nation's top-rated offense.
