Where Ed Orgeron ranks on LSU football's all-time wins list?

LSU football hired Ed Orgeron last week, bringing the former LSU head coach back to Baton Rouge in an assistant role on Lane Kiffin’s staff. Orgeron will serve as a special assistant to the defense and recruiting. This is Orgeron’s first official coaching job since he parted ways with LSU in 2021.

Orgeron’s relationship with Kiffin dates back over 20 years. The two were on staff together at USC before Orgeron worked for Kiffin at Tennessee and at USC. When Kiffin was hired at LSU, there was talk of Orgeron joining Kiffin’s staff. Now, it’s official.

Orgeron was LSU’s head coach from 2016-21. The highs were high, with LSU winning the national championship in 2019 and going 15-0. LSU faltered in Orgeron’s final two years, eventually leading to his departure. Still, Orgeron’s tenure was defined by the highs, not the lows.

Orgeron ranks No. 4 on LSU football’s all-time wins list, only trailing Charles McClendon, Les Miles, and Bernie Moore. Brian Kelly, who was fired in 2025, ranks No. 8 with 34 wins.
