The season is over for the Florida football program after finishing the fall with a monumentally disappointing 4-8 record. At least there is some good news: the Gators beat the FSU Seminoles in the finale and prevented their instate rivals from playing in the postseason as well.
As a result, the Orange and Blue finished the campaign a long way from where it started, ranked among the top 25 in both polls, while the computer models also strongly favored Florida. Voteless and mired among the mediocre, the Gators have quite a hill to climb next season to reach respectability again.
What little good news remains from the fall campaign can be found in corners of the internet like USA TODAY Sports’ college football rerank, in which Florida moved up four spots to No. 79 in the nation — five spots ahead of the Seminoles.
SEC teams in USA TODAY Sports rerank after Week 14
The Southeastern Conference is represented by seven teams in the top 25 — down one from last week — while keeping five among the top 10. The third-ranked Georgia Bulldogs lead the way this week, followed by the fifth-ranked Texas A&M Aggies, the seventh-ranked Ole Miss Rebels, the eighth-ranked Oklahoma Sooners, and the 10th-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide to round out the schools in the top 10.
The Vanderbilt Commodores (No. 12) and Texas Longhorns (No. 14) wrap up the SEC schools in the top 25.
The rest of the SEC rerankings are as follows: Tennessee Volunteers (No. 26); Missouri Tigers (No. 28); LSU Tigers (No. 50); Mississippi State Bulldogs (No. 67); Kentucky Wildcats (No. 74); Auburn Tigers (No. 76); Florida (No. 79); South Carolina Gamecocks (No. 86); Arkansas Razorbacks (No. 107).
2025 Florida Gators USA TODAY Sports 136 team rerank
Florida started the year just inside the top 25, nearly 10 spots below its preseason ranking in either major poll.
A 55-0 win over Long Island University in Week 1 didn’t sway the USA TODAY Sports re-rankers. The Gators climbed just one spot to No. 24 with a prove-it game against South Florida ahead. When USF upset Florida in Week 2, USA TODAY Sports dropped the Orange and Blue 16 places to No. 40.
Following another loss, to LSU, Florida dropped to No. 49 overall. After loss No. 3 to Miami, the Gators fell 15 spots to No. 64. Florida started its climb back up the rankings in Week 5, while on bye, albeit a one-spot ascent, but an upset victory over the Texas Longhorns sent the Gators up to No. 56 in the country.
Losing to Texas A&M in Week 8 led to an eight-spot drop, but the bye week brought a one-spot climb. Florida fell to No. 60 in Week 10 and dropped even further to No. 73 three weeks ago before falling again to No. 79 in Week 13.
Florida closed things out by moving up four spots after Week 14’s win over FSU. Now we wait for the final edition after bowl season.
