The coaching transition from Billy Napier to Jon Sumrall hasn't impacted the Florida football 2026 early signing class so far.
Thanks to the best efforts from Florida Gators interim coach Billy Gonzales to keep the class together, Florida lost just one commitment from its 2026 class since Napier was fired. Four-star running back Carsyn Baker de-committed from UF on Dec. 1.
Sumrall has been on zoom calls with UF commitments and their families since he was hired on Nov. 30.
"There haven't been a whole lot of decommitments, which is really powerful," Sumrall said. :"It speaks a lot about what this place is. It also speaks to a lot about a number of people that are still in the building, still here working day-to-day right now.
"I asked them to — first I thanked them for staying committed and not making a fast decision. I told them to give me an opportunity. I'd love to coach them all. They chose Florida for a reason that was bigger than maybe one person."
There could be some drama on National Early Signing Day on Dec. 3, though, as Ohio State is reportedly aggressively trying to flip one on UF's top commitments in the 2026 class — four-star cornerback CJ Bronaugh of Windemere. Another top commitment in UF's 2026 class — Gainesville Buchholz High standout wide receiver/running back Justin Williams — has stood firm on his commitment to the Gators despite the coaching change.
Florida currently stands at 18 commitments in its class, which includes eight four stars and five recruits ranked within the top 210 nationally, per 247Sports.
