Former LSU football quarterback Max Johnson started his college football career at LSU in 2020. Since then, he transferred two times and retained years of eligibility due to multiple injury stints. He holds a seventh year of eligibility and plans to use it in 2026.
Johnson will play for Georgia Southern this fall. It is his fourth school in seven years. Last year was his second at North Carolina. The passer played under head coach Bill Belichick, appearing in four games and completing 62.1% of his passes for 432 yards. He played his first year for the Tar Heels in 2024 but suffered a season-ending injury in the season opener.
LSU recruited Johnson as a consensus four-star prospect out of Watkinsville, GA. He made six appearances in 2020 before taking over as the full-time starter in 2021 when he threw for 2,815 yards and 27 touchdowns. He as recruited by head coach Ed Orgeron but decided to move on after Orgeron departed Baton Rouge.

Johnson took his talents to Texas A&M in 2022 for two years. He redshirted after suffering a season-ending injury in the fourth game of the year. The following year, he stepped into the top role when the regular starter got hurt. He totaled 1,452 passing yards and nine touchdowns through the air for the Aggies then moved to North Carolina.
