Ohio State finished in the top-five of the Associated Press poll but slightly lower in the US LBM Coaches Poll.
The Buckeyes were No. 6 in the final coaches poll, a spot below their ranking in the AP. Both were released on Jan. 20 following Indiana’s win over Miami in the College Football Playoff final.
The top of the rankings mirrored each other with all four semifinalists: Indiana at No. 1, Miami at No. 2, Mississippi at No. 3 and Oregon at No. 4.
But the No. 5 ranking varied, as media members favored Ohio State over Georgia, while the coaches had the Bulldogs ahead of the Buckeyes as they did following the conference championship weekend in December. Both lost in the playoff’s quarterfinal round.
The Buckeyes finished No. 1 in both polls last January after they won the national championship in the first year of the 12-team playoff format.
