Where LSU football sits in recruiting rankings after latest shakeup

LSU football has been underwhelming this season, currently sitting unranked with a 5-4 record. After firing head coach Brian Kelly and offensive coordinator Joe Sloan, some believed the team might rebound when the Tigers traveled to Tuscaloosa to face Alabama, but no such luck, as the Tigers lost 9-20.

Considering all the turmoil in the program, along with the team’s on-field performance, many expected LSU’s 2026 recruiting class to fall apart. Fortunately, that’s the one thing that has remained mostly intact. According to 247Sports’ latest recruiting rankings, LSU ranks 11th nationally, just behind Miami and slightly ahead of Florida.

The Tigers did lose one significant recruit since Kelly was fired — edge rusher DeAnthony Lafayette out of Orlando. Lafayette flipped from LSU to Miami on November 9th, which likely helped the Hurricanes move a spot ahead of LSU in 247Sports’ rankings. Fortunately, losing Lafayette isn’t the biggest blow to LSU’s recruiting class, as Trenton Henderson, the fifth-ranked edge rusher in the country, is already committed to play for the Tigers.

One player who’s playing a major role in keeping the Tigers’ recruiting class together is Lamar Brown, the fifth-ranked recruit in the nation. Brown currently plays both offensive and defensive line, but according to 247Sports, he wants to focus on defense at the college level.

Many have been worried that Brown might flip his commitment following the recent events at LSU, but Brown’s latest social media post appears to reaffirm where his loyalties lie.

One position the Tigers could likely improve in on the recruiting front is at wide receiver, as the team’s current receiving room hasn’t been the force many expected it to be when the season began. According to Pro Football Focus, LSU’s receiving grade is a 69.3, which ranks 11th in the SEC.

Currently, three wide receivers are committed to play for the team next season, including two lower-ranked four stars. Given the team’s current lack of top-tier talent and potential depth issues after this year’s seniors graduate, it would be wise for the Tigers to work on strengthening that position in the coming weeks.
