No one is discounting how early it is in the 2028 recruiting cycle, but Notre Dame football is off to a fantastic start.

On Monday, the Irish added elite 5-star edge rusher Darieon Prescott, beating out Oregon and Texas A&M among his large offer list. He now makes it three total commitments, although one, Owen Davies, is a kicker. Regardless of that, Notre Dame is off to a tremendous start, one that 247Sports Team Composite Rankings has as the No. 4 class.

At the top of the list is a who’s who of college football elite, with Alabama, Ohio State, and Georgia ahead of the Irish. There are more than a few caveats with this ranking, as most teams haven’t really made this class their focus. Boston College is ranked No. 9, and we all know that won’t be anywhere near where the Eagles will finish.

What matters for Notre Dame is the fast start, one that already has a 5-star commitment and is in the running for multiple others. While it does look like the 2027 class will be head coach Marcus Freeman’s best ever, the 2028 class has the potential to match it, or dare I say, best it.
