The offensive tackle group in the 2027 cycle is elite. There’s currently 32 blue-chippers at the position, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies.
All 32 trench monsters are committed and most have long been off the board. Eight of those prospects are inside the top 100 overall. Some of the biggest recruiting battles of the entire cycle have involved some of the best OTs in the nation.

The SEC has won out in a majority of those battles. Texas A&M holds a pledge from the No. 1 tackle in the nation, while Oklahoma has two of the top five. Rivals is taking another look at the top 10 OT prospects in the 2027 cycle, per the Rivals Industry Rankings.
1. Mark Matthews — Texas A&M
Rivals Industry Rankings: No. 4 NATL.
School:St. Thomas Aquinas (Fla.)
Committed Since: May 15
Texas A&M ultimately beat out Miami for Matthews, the 6-foot-5.5, 285-pounder who’s long been considered the nation’s top-ranked tackle. He’s one of five five-stars committed to the Aggies, who still hold the No. 1 haul in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings. Matthews reminds Rivals’ Scouting and Rankings Team of Laremy Tunsil.
2. Olu Olubobola — Notre Dame
Rivals Industry Rankings: No. 18 NATL.
School:St. Peter’s Prep (N.J.)
Committed Since: May 12
Touted as a “violent” run-blocker, Olubobola was a longtime Notre Dame lean and he locked in his pledge to Marcus Freeman and the Irish before taking his official visit to South Bend. Florida, Nebraska and Penn State were among his other top contenders. Olubobola is also the No. 1 prospect in New Jersey.
3. Kaeden Penny — Oklahoma
Rivals Industry Rankings: No. 35 NATL.
School:Bixby (Okla.)
Committed Since: Sept. 25, 2025
The state of Oklahoma is especially loaded with standout prospects this cycle and Penny, the No. 2 player in the state, locked in a very early commitment to Bill Bedenbaugh and the Sooners. His stock has soared since coming off the board and he’s also now the No. 27 prospect in the 2027 Rivals300. Penny plays for one of the top HSFB programs in the state.
4. Cooper Hackett — Oklahoma
Rivals Industry Rankings: No. 43 NATL.
School:Fort Gibson (Okla.)
Committed Since: Sept. 25, 2025
Before Penny pledged, Oklahoma flipped Hackett from Texas Tech. The Rivals300 five-star told Rivals that he opted to take less money by flipping away from the Red Raiders. Checking in at 6-foot-7 and 260 pounds, Hackett forms an elite OT duo with Penny. He reminds Rivals’ Scouting and Rankings Team of former OU star Tyler Guyton.
5. Layton von Brandt — Auburn
Rivals Industry Rankings: No. 79 NATL.
School:Appoquinimink (Del.)
Committed Since: May 18
Penn State picked up an early commitment from von Brandt, but once it fired James Franklin, the blue-chipper put his name back on the board and hit the reset button on his recruitment. Auburn surged in the spring and eventually beat out PSU, Notre Dame and Florida. He’s the third-highest-ranked commit in the Tigers’ class and is one of the top overall recruits in the Northeast.
6. Antonio Berry — Ole Miss
Rivals Industry Rankings: No. 85 NATL.
School:Tupelo (Miss.)
Committed Since: June 24
Pete Golding and the Ole Miss staff continue to do quite well on the local recruiting trail and Berry, the No. 4 prospect in the Magnolia State, was a major pledge during official visit season. The Rebels beat out Alabama and Kentucky, among others. Berry has some of the best footwork among the top tackles this cycle, according to Rivals’ Charles Power.
7. Kennedee Jackson — Georgia
Rivals Industry Rankings: No. 86 NATL.
School:Lithonia (Ga.)
Committed Since: June 13
Jackson committed to Florida on June 2 after taking an official visit to Gainesville. That pledge lasted just nine days, as Georgia then got him to Athens for an OV and subsequently flipped him away from the Gators. That quick of a flip normally signals a topsy-turvy recruitment, but Jackson, the No. 8 prospect in the Peach State, has been solid with UGA since the flip.
8. Jakari Lipsey — Michigan
Rivals Industry Rankings: No. 97 NATL.
School:Loy Norrix (Mich.)
Committed Since: May 2
The month of May brought a slew of blue-chip commitments for Michigan and Lipsey helped get the ball rolling by opting for the in-state Big Ten program. The 6-foot-5, 290-pounder is a three-sport athlete at the high school level and is the top-ranked pledge for Kyle Whittingham and Co. this cycle. He reminds Rivals’ Scouting and Rankings Team of Chukwuma Okorafor.
9. Elijah Hutcheson — Florida
Rivals Industry Rankings: No. 108 NATL.
School:Roanoke Catholic (Va.)
Committed Since: May 5
In what was one of the first big recruiting wins for Jon Sumrall and the new UF staff, the Gators beat out Clemson, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech for Hutcheson. He’s been a fringe top-100 prospect for essentially the entire cycle and is also the No. 2 prospect in Virginia. He checks in at 6-foot-5 and 265 pounds and is one of the top commits in Florida’s 2027 class.
10. Jake Hildebrand — Arizona State
Rivals Industry Rankings: No. 112 NATL.
School:Basha (Ariz.)
Committed Since: May 19
It’s been an awfully quiet cycle for Arizona State, but it worked hard to beat Oregon, Texas A&M and Utah for Hildebrand, the No. 3 prospect in the Grand Canyon State. The 6-foot-5.5., 310-pounder is one of just two blue-chippers committed to the Sun Devils this cycle. He reminds Rivals’ Scouting and Rankings Team of Andrew Donnal.
