A new chapter in the Georgia Southern (6-6) and Appalachian State (5-7) rivalry will be etched during the 2025 Birmingham Bowl on Monday, Dec. 29.

The two teams have played at least once in the regular season annually going back to the 1993 season, but this will be the first time that the two teams will play each other in a postseason game since both programs joined the Sun Belt Conference in 2014.

It also will be the first time that the two teams will be playing each other on a neutral site. The Mountaineers have the advantage in the overall series, winning 19 out of 35 games dating back to 1987. However, the Eagles have won the last two, including their matchup on Nov. 6 (a 25-23 win).
