Vanderbilt football was ranked No. 14 in the second iteration of the College Football Playoff rankings released Nov. 11.

Vanderbilt (8-2) defeated Auburn, 45-38, in overtime on Nov. 8 to keep its playoff hopes alive after a loss at Texas. But the ranking shows that the Commodores still need some help to qualify. The playoff format includes the five highest-ranked conference champions and seven at-large bids. Vanderbilt is highly unlikely to qualify for the SEC Championship Game and would thus need to go the at-large route.

One must is for Oklahoma and Texas, both ranked ahead of Vanderbilt currently, to each pick up at least one additional loss. BYU and Notre Dame, two other teams that could threaten a Commodores at-large bid, are also currently ranked higher.

Vanderbilt was ranked No. 16 in the initial rankings released Nov. 4.
