Alabama football finished its season in the College Football Playoff. The Crimson Tide secured a CFP win against Oklahoma and ended its season with a Rose Bowl loss to Indiana, which finished as the CFP national champion.

Yet Navy coach Brian Newberry ranked 20 teams before Alabama in his final US LBM Coaches Poll.

While the Crimson Tide finished the season at No. 9 in the final poll, Newberry had Alabama at No. 21 behind teams like Vanderbilt, Virginia, James Madison, North Texas, Old Dominion and his Midshipmen.

Twenty coaches had Alabama ranked at No. 10 or lower, including Indiana coach Curt Cignetti at No. 12, whose team beat the Crimson Tide 38-3 in the Rose Bowl, NC State coach Dave Doeren at No. 16 and South Florida coach-turned-Auburn coach Alex Golesh at No. 13.

Who ranked Alabama football highest in final Coaches Poll?

Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer put the Crimson Tide at No. 7. But DeBoer wasn’t the coach who put Alabama highest.

Delaware coach Ryan Carty and Tulane-turned-Florida coach Jon Sumrall each have the Crimson Tide at No. 6.

Alabama opens the 2026 season Saturday, Sept. 6 against East Carolina.
