Two Southern Miss football coaches, including defensive coordinator Jason Semore, will be joining former coach Charles Huff at Memphis, according to reports by ESPN.

After leading the Golden Eagles to a 7-5 season, Huff announced he was leaving Southern Miss on Dec. 7. He was officially named the next coach at Memphis on Dec. 8.

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg and Pete Thamel reported on Dec. 8 that Semore and defensive backs coach Dominique Bowman would be joining Huff at Memphis. Semore also served as Huff’s defensive coordinator at Marshall, where he coached before southern Miss.

Southern Miss’ defense finished seventh in the Sun Belt in total yards per game and sixth in passing yards per game allowed. The Golden Eagles tied for first in FBS with 21 interceptions.

Five Southern Miss defenders were named to the All-Sun Belt teams, including defensive backs Josh Moten, a first-team selection, and Ian Foster, a third-team selection.

Despite Huff’s departure, the Golden Eagles’ season is not over.

They will play Western Kentucky (8-4) in the New Orleans Bowl at Caesars Superdome on Dec. 23 (4:30 p.m. CT, ESPN). Offensive coordinator Blake Anderson will serve as the team’s interim head coach.
