When high school football kicks off in Louisiana on Friday, Sept. 4, plenty of new names will take field.

One, however, has been familiar to Louisiana football fans long before he ever stepped foot into the state.

Knox Kiffin will make his debut as LSU Laboratory School's (U-High) starting quarterback the same weekend that his father, Lane Kiffin, begins his tenure as LSU's newest head football coach.

Adding even more intrigue to the matchup, Kiffin will go head-to-head with another familiar name in Louisiana: Colton Nussmeier. The four-star quarterback and Georgia commit is the younger brother of former LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and the son of New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier.

As Louisiana football fans gear up for a weekend full of action, here's everything you need to know about Knox Kiffin.

Who is Knox Kiffin?

Kiffin is a three-star quarterback in the Class of 2028 at LSU Laboratory School, better known as U-High, and the son of LSU head coach Lane Kiffin. He transferred to U-High from Oxford High School in Mississippi after his father accepted the head coaching job at LSU.

At Oxford, Knox Kiffin completed 67-of-114 passes for 1,236 yards and 14 touchdowns against two interceptions, helping lead the Chargers to the Class 7A state semifinals.

Is Knox Kiffin the son of Lane Kiffin?

Yes, Knox is the youngest of Lane's three children. Knox's oldest sister, Landry, attends Ole Miss, while his middle sister, Presley, plays volleyball at University of Southern California.

Why did Knox Kiffin transfer to U-High?

Knox Kiffin transferred to U-High ahead of his junior year after his father accepted the head coaching job at LSU. Kiffin previously played his sophomore season at Oxford High School and his freshman season at Palos Verdes High School in California.

When will Knox Kiffin debut for U-High?

U-High will play their season-opener against Archbishop Rummel on Friday, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m. ET at the Cub Complex.

Kiffin's debut will be against another highly-touted quarterback in Nussmeier, who transferred to Archbishop Rummel ahead of the season after being ruled ineligible at Denton Ryan High School in Texas.

The Cubs are coming off of a 2025 season where they finished 10-3, with one of their losses coming to Archbishop Rummel.

Is Knox Kiffin being recruited?

While Knox Kiffin is only a junior, he is getting plenty of attention from colleges. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound quarterback has already received several offers, including from Power Four programs like Georgia Tech, Vanderbilt, Missouri and California.

When Lane Kiffin was still coaching at Ole Miss, Knox generated buzz after telling Rivals, "I'm definitely not going to play for my dad."

Knox has not yet confirmed that statement since Lane took over at LSU; however, he has not received an offer from the Tigers.
