LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt is doubtful for college football‘s big top-10 game at Ole Miss with a sore throwing shoulder, potentially opening the door for former five-star USC transfer Husan Longstreet or redshirt sophomore Landen Clark to start.
The Arizona State transfer has been limited in practice and did not throw Wednesday, according to multiple reports. LSU listed him as doubtful on Wednesday night’s SEC availability report.

Sam Leavitt injury update
The SEC says a doubtful player has a 25% chance to play. The listing came as a surprise because Leavitt finished last week’s 45-14 win over Louisiana Tech, and Kiffin didn’t mention an injury at his Monday press conference.
Leavitt was also set to talk to reporters Tuesday, but an LSU spokesman told the media that the former Sun Devil had left the building.
Some fans think the listing is a trick by Kiffin before his first trip back to Ole Miss. However, SEC rules ban gamesmanship, and schools can face fines of $25,000 to $100,000 for inaccurate or late reports.
Leavitt has completed 41 of 66 passes for 574 yards, two touchdowns and four interceptions this season. He’s also run for 135 yards and five scores. Still, injuries cost him seven games over his last two seasons at Arizona State.

Who is Husan Longstreet at LSU?
Longstreet is a redshirt freshman from Centennial High School in Corona, California. The former five-star recruit threw for more than 8,500 yards and 83 touchdowns in high school.
Recruiting analyst Charles Power praised his arm as a recruit. “Top arm talent with arguably the strongest arm in the 2025 cycle,” Power said.
The Corona native’s bond with Kiffin and his offensive staff was a big reason Ole Miss was one of his finalists before he picked USC. He played in four games as a true freshman, completing 13 of 15 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown. He also ran 11 times for 76 yards and two scores.
The 6-foot-1 passer transferred to LSU in January. He’s thrown one pass for the Tigers this season, in the opening win over Clemson.

LSU backup quarterbacks against Ole Miss
Elon transfer Landen Clark has been the first quarterback off the bench in both LSU wins, even though he’s listed third on the depth chart. He’s completed 7 of 10 passes for 109 yards and a touchdown this season.
Clark started at Elon last season, throwing for 2,321 yards and 18 touchdowns. He added 614 rushing yards and 11 more scores.
Still, one college football writer made the case for the former USC passer, writing that “Longstreet is a dynamic dual-threat quarterback who fits Lane Kiffin’s system well.”
Both teams are 2-0, and kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. LSU must update Leavitt’s status again Thursday and Friday ahead of a final report due 90 minutes before kickoff.
