Ryan Niblett is fast. The kick return specialist burst onto the Texas Longhorns scene last season with two long punt returns for a touchdown, a 79-yarder against Mississippi State and a 75-yard punt return against Oklahoma. But is he the fastest player on the team?
Both of Niblett's punt returns were important. Against the Bulldogs, his touchdown tied the game 38-38 to send the game into overtime, where Texas eventually won 45-38. Against the Sooners, the fourth-year running back was clocked at 20.8 mph.
Niblett is a first-team preseason All-American and on the Paul Hornung Award watch list. In high school at Aldine Eisenhower High School near Houston, Niblett recorded a time of 10.58 in the 100 and 22.14 in the 200.
He's one of the fastest players in college football. But is he the fastest Longhorn? He won't say. But he says three teammates are definitely in the conversation.

“I don't like to put myself in there,” Niblett told the Austin American-Statesman. “I'm very humble.”

Niblett humbly suggested three teammates that could claim the title of "Fastest Longhorns Player." He singled out freshman receiver Kohen Brown, third-year receiver Ryan Wingo and senior defensive back Warren Roberson.

Texas Longhorns WR Kohen Brown – Freshman
Brown is a 6-foot, 210-pound three-star recruit from Waxahachie. His speed, which reportedly hit 23.1 mph in summer conditioning, quickly caught the attention of Niblett, Texas teammates and coaches. “Kohen, of course," Niblett said. "Kohen's definitely fast.”
Texas Longhorns WR Ryan Wingo – Junior
Wingo finished third in the Missouri 5A state championships in the 100 meters with a time of 10.55 seconds in 2022 out of St. Louis. In 2025, he reportedly reached 22 mph on a reception against Sam Houston. It ranked as the fifth-fastest of any player per Reel Analytics.
For what its worth, Wingo is also the fastest Longhorn in the latest version of EA Sports "College Football 27" video game with a speed rating of 97.
Texas Longhorns DB Warren Roberson – Senior
Roberson was the biggest surprise on Niblett's list. The 6-foot, 189-pound cornerback from Red Oak never cracked 11 seconds in the 100 meter in high school. But speed knows speed.
