Whoopi Goldberg says her ‘The View’ paycheck would leave fans ‘shocked’

The EGOT winner joked about her salary before reflecting on why she’s remained at the table for nearly two decades.
Whoopi Goldberg isn’t disclosing exactly how much she earns as moderator of “The View,” but she says one thing is certain: most people would never guess the size of her paycheck.
During a recent appearance on actress Keke Palmer’s “Baby, This Is Keke Palmer” podcast, Goldberg was asked what she enjoys most about being part of the long-running daytime talk show. Her response was immediate — “the check.”
Goldberg leaned into the joke when Palmer wondered just how lucrative the role is. Without revealing her salary, the EGOT winner insisted viewers would be stunned if they ever saw the figure.
“You can’t imagine it,” Goldberg told Palmer, adding that people would likely react with disbelief if they saw her paycheck.
The lighthearted exchange quickly turned into a reflection on gratitude. Goldberg explained she accepted the role in 2007 after “The View” creator Barbara Walters offered her a seat at the table during a period when she was looking for steady work.
“I needed a job,” Goldberg recalled, explaining that Walters reached out after the show lost one of its co-hosts. What began as a new opportunity has turned into nearly two decades as the face of the program.
Goldberg said she never takes that opportunity for granted. Before heading to work each day, she said she often looks around her home, thinks about her family and reminds herself how fortunate she is to have a consistent job when many people are still searching for one.
Goldberg also reflected on why she continues to enjoy the role beyond the paycheck. She said she likes discussing current events, sharing her perspective, and engaging with people—even when her opinions spark criticism.
“The public gets me,” Goldberg said. “They don’t always like me, but they get me.”
Now approaching “The View’s” milestone 30th season, Goldberg remains one of the defining voices of the daytime talk show. The series is currently on its summer hiatus and is expected to return later this year with Goldberg once again serving as moderator after nearly 20 years in the role.
