Why Alabama QB Ty Simpson feels he has something to prove vs Auburn

Nothing is wrong with the Alabama football offense, Ty Simpson says. Nothing is wrong with the Crimson Tide quarterback, Simpson repeated.
“Everybody likes to say, ‘What happened to the old Ty? What happened to him?'” Simpson said. “Just got to go one-for-one, you know what I mean? Everybody’s wondering what’s going on. Nothing’s going on. We just have to go play our ball.”
Simpson has turned the ball over in seven straight games. He has three interceptions in Alabama‘s past two games against Oklahoma and Eastern Illinois. In those seven games, Alabama has exceeded 30 points three times.
Simpson has something to prove. Those questions about “the old Ty” are in the back of his head. But Simpson isn’t changing his approach.
“I’m just going to do my job,” Simpson said. “What a great week to do it, you know what I mean? It’s a really good team and a really good defense.”
The doubt brings Simpson back to Week 1 against Florida State, a game Simpson lost, a game in which Simpson was sacked three times and had a season-low 53.5% completion percentage.
And Simpson goes back to the same mindset as he had in the aftermath: Trusting God, trusting his process and understanding that he’s been here before, and he will respond again.
Auburn is different, Simpson said. But Alabama has played in hostile environments like Georgia, like South Carolina.
The only difference is the stakes of the Iron Bowl, one with SEC championship and College Football Playoff implications. But Simpson trusts in what he and his teammates have already shown.
“It just goes back to how our team is, how resilient we are and how we all play for one another,” Simpson said. “That’s how it’s going to be this weekend. This is for all the marbles. Let’s go get it.”
Alabama will take on Auburn at 6:30 p.m. CT Saturday, Nov. 29 at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
