The Washington Huskies earned one of their biggest recruiting wins in the 2027 class on Saturday when four-star cornerback Censere Gaylord committed to Jedd Fisch's program over Georgia and Georgia Tech.
The 6-foot, 170-pound product of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, who is originally from Southern California and ranked as the No. 112 overall prospect and No. 13 cornerback in the 2027 class by 247Sports, referenced a strong relationship with Fisch's coaching staff as one of the biggest factors in choosing the Huskies, namely secondary coach John Richardson.
"Coach JRich is from Los Angeles, I've known him since I was in eighth grade," Gaylord told 247Sports' Tom Loy after his commitment. "How to approach the game, be a pro, a lot of NFL guys come from there…A lot of (defensive backs) go there. Trent McDuffie, the highest-paid corner in the league, came from there."
During his official visit over the June 5 weekend, Fisch and the Huskies also sold Gaylord on their "Be A Pro" mindset, which has resonated with plenty of Washington's top targets on the recruiting trail.
"The guys he's put in the league, how he's run his program," Gaylord continued when asked why Fisch was able to secure his pledge. "Coming from the NFL, he knows what it takes to get there. He coaches his players to get there; he knows what it takes, he knows what they need."
Under Richardson, Washington has had plenty of success recruiting in the secondary, built on strong relationships. With Gaylord's pledge, the Huskies have pulled in eight commitments from blue-chip defensive backs over Richardson's three years on Montlake.
