Georgia football is getting another rematch for its College Football Playoff quarterfinal game in the Sugar Bowl.

Ole Miss thumped Tulane for the second time this season, 41-10, on Saturday, Dec. 20, in a CFP first-round game in Oxford.

That sets up the No. 6 seed Rebels for the Jan. 1 game in New Orleans against the No. 3 seed Bulldogs.

Georgia rallied to beat Ole Miss 43-35 on Oct. 18 in Athens.

The Sugar Bowl will pit a pair of former Alabama defensive coordinators under Nick Saban.

Kirby Smart, an assistant with the Crimson Tide from 2007-15, has coached 137 games for Georgia (12-1).

Pete Golding, Alabama coordinator from 2018-2022, just made his head coaching debut after being promoted after Lane Kiffin bolted for LSU.

The Rebels (12-1) got 282 passing yards and a touchdown from Trinidad Chambliss, who also rushed for 36 yards and two scores. Running back Kewan Lacy rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries but battled a left shoulder injury that will be worth watching.

It was Ole Miss’ first College Football Playoff game.

“When I came on the visit, being honest, I could see the direction the program was going in and just wanted to come help,” safety TJ Dottery, who transferred from Clemson in 2023, said prior to the first-round win.

Georgia vs. Ole Miss preview

Georgia put up 510 yards against the Rebels, its second-highest yard total of the season, in their first game when it outscored Ole Miss 17-0 in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs have averaged just 304.7 in their last three games against SEC teams. The Rebels’ defense has shown signs of growth since that first game, but the best offenses it faced were Mississippi State, which ranked eighth in the SEC in yards per game, and Tulane, which ranked 40th nationally. Tulane was held to a field goal Saturday until it scored a touchdown with four minutes to go. Georgia’s defense has allowed just two touchdowns total in the last four games.
