OXFORD ― Ole Miss football tight end Dae’Quan Wright is hoping that the Rebels play in Week 11 goes along with the belt celebrations fans brought out Nov. 1 against South Carolina.
No. 7 Ole Miss (8-1) hosts The Citadel (4-5) on Nov. 8 (noon, SEC Network+). The Bulldogs are a middle-of-the-pack team in the Southern Conference.
The Citadel is a military college in Charleston, South Carolina. The Bulldogs lost 51-14 in their final game last season against Clemson. It was their most recent game against a power four opponent.
Wright said he wants to see his team win big as heavy home favorites.
“Just, like, an ass whooping for real,” Wright said. “We’ve got to make a statement. We can’t go out there and take them lightly just because of who they are or where they are from or what league they play in. You’ve just gotta go make a statement.”
Ole Miss struggled in its last game as big home favorites against a nonconference team. Ole Miss scuffled to a 24-21 win against Washington State on Oct. 11.
Coach Lane Kiffin was unhappy with the result and expressed his disappointment with his team and the fans after the lackluster performance against the Cougars.
Wright has been a big part of the Rebels’ success. He has 24 catches for 436 yards and four touchdowns in 2025. His best statistical performance came against Washington State when he caught four passes for 80 yards and a score.
“(The Citadel is) well-coached, I will give them,” Wright said. “They’ve got good players and stuff, but we want to show them they ain’t supposed to be on the field with us.”
Why Ole Miss football fans are celebrating with belts
A small, organic movement took place in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium at the end of Ole Miss’ win against South Carolina.
The Rebels pulled away in the fourth quarter to win 30-14. Fans celebrated by clapping belts together to make popping noises. The idea comes from “BTA,” a common term online that means “belt to ass.”
Running back Kewan Lacy, who rushed for 167 yards and a touchdown, was handed multiple belts.
Lacy gave one to Kiffin, which clued the Ole Miss coach in on the celebration signifying dominance.
“I did see it later on,” Kiffin said Nov. 2. “I didn’t even really understand because I didn’t see it during the game and then Kewan went to hand me a belt when we were walking off.”
