Dan Lanning’s Oregon Ducks dropped their second game of the year, this time to the UCLA Bruins as starting QB Dylan Raiola was benched. Raiola, who was filling in for Heisman contender Dante Moore, had a rough outing that led to a call-out from a former NFL lineman and Ducks star.
After the game, Raiola decided to face the music. He went up to the podium to discuss what happened, in hopes of setting an example for his brother Dayton Raiola, according to reporter Brenna Greene of KOIN News.
“A surprising appearance at postgame media availability: Dylan Raiola. I asked him why he decided to get up in front of the media. Says he has a little brother he wants to set a good example for and that he owes it to the media and to the fans to address this loss. Wants to confront the situation head on.”

Oregon’s offense was anemic throughout the day and recovered to score nine points in the fourth quarter behind third-stringer quarterback Brock Thomas, who outshined Raiola with 11-of-15 completions for 156 yards and a touchdown. Dierre Hill Jr. led Oregon with 44 yards rushing and Dakorein Moore led the way among receivers with four catches for 77 yards.
Raiola’s starting job looks to be in jeopardy considering Thomas’ performance, outside chatter, and the expected return of Moore, who got first round pick hype recently. Oregon was outclassed and outgained in their loss to the Bruins, a tough outcome for a team with title dreams. Coach Lanning, Raiola and company will head back to the drawing board in hopes of playing better on Oct. 17 against the QB’s former team, Nebraska.
