As the Texas football program clashes with the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday night, it will be a pivotal game for the Longhorns and star Arch Manning. With Texas football quarterback in Manning looking to not replicate the 2025 season in the lackluster outing against the Buckeyes, this analyst gives insight into how the Longhorns are prepared for a championship run.
There’s no denying that it was an up-and-down year for Manning last season, especially to start, but he would get it going towards the latter half, picking up where he left off in Week 1 against Texas State, throwing for 305 yards and four touchdowns. Charles Davis was on the “Dan Patrick Show,” where he was asked if this is the year that the Longhorns go all the way, and with him saying they have what it takes, it starts with Manning.
“They’re in a great position for it to be,” Davis said. “The why is Arch Manning is playing at the level that you recruited Arch Manning to play. That started last year, about halfway through the season, when that thing started to happen. The why is also you went out and got a couple of better running backs out there. You went out and got a great receiver in Cam Coleman…You have it all there.”

The one team that rivals the Texas football program
Davis would continue talking about his feelings on the Texas football team, but contesting it with saying that a team that could rival them this season is their Week 2 opponents in Ohio State, led by quarterback Julian Sayin.
“The why not is this team coming to town on Saturday, Ohio State is pretty darn good itself, and you have a quarterback that will match the moment with it,” Davis continued. “That’s a talented roster, Jeremiah Smith. The whole deal.”
In fact, Davis predicts that the Buckeyes will get a ‘close win’ over the Longhorns on Saturday, as it remains to be seen who leaves Austin, Texas, the victors.
