Why WR commit Chris Henry Jr. thinks Ohio State will remain WRU

Two former five-star wide receiver prospects, Quincy Porter and Mylan Graham, are leaving Ohio State via the transfer portal, according to On3 Sports. Another receiver, Carnell Tate, has declared for the 2026 NFL Draft. The team’s former standout wide receiver coach and offensive coordinator, Brian Hartline, has left to take over as head coach at South Florida.

The top prospect of Ohio State’s 2026 recruiting class is not worried.

On a podcast with his siblings, Ohio State five-star wide receiver commit Chris Henry Jr. revealed why he stayed with the Buckeyes after Hartline’s departure.

“I feel like Ohio State is still going to be ‘Receiver U’ and it’s still going to stay the same,” Henry Jr. said on the “Henry Legacy” podcast Jan. 7. “We’re still going to be, you know, producing guys. … It’s like a machine for receivers.”

On national signing day Dec. 3, Hartline was named the Bulls head coach hours before Henry Jr. planned to officially sign as a Buckeye. Henry Jr., who verbally committed in July 2023, learned the news when Hartline called him.

“I was just in shock,” Henry Jr. said, “I’ve been committed there for three years, mainly because of him and our relationship. … I really didn’t feel confident signing.”

After posting on social media that he would hold off on signing, Henry Jr. said more schools, including Texas, LSU and West Virginia, called him in an attempt to flip his commitment.

Finally, Henry Jr. announced Dec. 5 on “The Pat McAfee Show” that he had signed with the Buckeyes.

“Ultimately, what made me stay is really just talking with coach [Ryan] Day,” Henry Jr. said. “… I just understood that, you know, I couldn’t pass this up. It’s too much of a blessing to go to Ohio State, learn from guys like Jeremiah Smith, Carnell Tate, Brandon Inniss.”

A product of Mater Dei High School, Henry Jr. is the top wide receiver prospect and No. 10 player in the 2026 recruiting class, according to 247Sports. His sister, Seini, is a redshirt freshman on the Ohio State women’s basketball team. He is the son of the late Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry.
