Has LSU football QB Garrett Nussmeier played his final snap in the purple and gold? After missing LSU’s contest vs. Arkansas, Nussmeier is doubtful for LSU’s Week 13 game vs. Western Kentucky.

“Garrett’s situation hasn’t changed much since last week,” LSU interim head coach Frank Wilson said.

We last saw Nussmeier vs. Alabama, a game where he was benched in favor of Michael Van Buren. Van Buren got the start vs. Arkansas, leading LSU to a win. He’ll get the nod again this week if Nussmeier can’t go.

Nussmeier began 2025 with high expectations. Nussmeier was considered a Heisman favorite and a contender to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. But Nussmeier suffered a torso injury in fall camp and never quite looked right. Playing behind a struggling offensive line, Nussmeier took hit after hit.

Nussmeier looked healthy at brief moments this year, but he was always one hit away from getting up limping.

This week is senior night for LSU. If Nussmeier doesn’t suit up now, it’s hard to see LSU throwing him out there vs. Oklahoma’s vaunted defense in the regular season finale. That would mean Nussmeier’s LSU career is over.

With 7,699 career yards, Nussmeier ranks No. 3 in LSU history. He’s thrown 52 touchdowns and 24 interceptions.

This is Nussmeier’s fifth and final year of college football. He spent all five with the Tigers, originally singing with Ed Orgeron and sticking with LSU as Brian Kelly took over the program. Nussmeier backed up Jayden Daniels in 2022 and 2023 before becoming QB1 in 2024.
