UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Indiana football starting linebacker Aiden Fisher (knee) will make his return to the lineup against Penn State on Saturday at Beaver Stadium, but starting wide receiver Elijah Sarratt (hamstring) didn’t end up starting after being listed as questionable.
Sarratt warmed up during the early pre-game warmups under the supervision of IU’s training staff and was clearly favoring his right leg throughout the session. He was dressed out when the team came back on the field, but didn’t run routes with any of the other receivers as the team went through its traditional pre-game routine.
He came into the game with 45 catches, 609 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns.
The No. 2 Hoosiers (9-0, 6-0 Big Ten) ruled out backup linebacker Kaiden Turner, starting kickoff specialist Brendan Franke and starting left guard Drew Evans as out on the availability report released before the game.
“Injuries are a part of the game,” Indiana football coach Curt Cignetti said. “Some of them are outside your control. I’m always thinking about the health of our football team, which why we practice the way we practice, and if you happen to notice at the end of the games when we’re running the clock and snapping the ball with two seconds, we’re reducing the number of plays in the game, which we’ve done quite a bit in some of the games where we’ve gotten out ahead.”
Cignetti announced Evans would miss a “few weeks” with an undisclosed injury that sidelined him against Maryland. Ohio State transfer Zen Michalski made his first career start on the interior of the offensive line in place of Evans, but redshirt freshman Adedamola Ajani got the starting nod against Penn State.
Ajani repped with the first-team offense during the spring at the position while Evans rehabbed from the Achilles injury he suffered last season.
