The Lane Kiffin to Florida football drama will stretch at least one more week.

On X, Ole Miss athletic director Keith Carter released a statement that an announcement on the 50-year-old's Kiffin future will come after the day after he coaches Ole Miss against rival Mississippi State, which is Nov. 28.

In the statement, Carter confirmed that he had "pointed and positive conversations" in a meeting with Kiffin on Nov. 21. Ole Miss Chancellor Glenn Boyle also attended the meeting.

"Despite the outside noise, Coach Kiffin is preparing our team for the Egg Bowl, and together we want to ensure our players and coaches can concentrate fully on next Friday's game," Carter said in the statement. "This team is on the cusp of an unprecedented season and it's imperative they feel the support of the Ole Miss family in the week ahead."

Kiffin has been considered the Florida Gators top target to replace Billy Napier, who was fired on Oct. 18. lorida athletic director Scott Stricklin met with Kiffin in Oxford, Miss., on Nov. 20, according to WRUF's Steve Russell and multiple reports, after Kiffin's family visited Gainesville on Nov. 16.

On Nov. 19, On3 reported Florida had an interview set up with Tulane coach Jon Sumrall, but Sumrall quickly denied that report.

LSU has also entered the mix, which complicates matters from UF's perspective. Kiffin didn't confirm or deny reports that his family spoke visited Baton Rouge, La., on Nov. 17, or that he spoke with Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry.

At this point, Kiffin could either land at Florida, LSU or stay at Ole Miss, where he's guided the Rebels to a historic 10-1 season and potential first College Football Playoff appearance in school history.

Washington coach Jedd Fisch, a former UF grad assistant, Georgia Tech coach Brent Key and Louisville coach Jeff Brohm are also considered possible candidates to become UF's next coach. The Florida Gators (3-7, 2-5 SEC), on their way to their fourth losing season in the last five years, host No. 20 Tennessee on Nov. 22 (7:30 p.m., ABC).
