At Vero Beach High School football games, you could expect to hear claps from the bleachers, the marching band playing and Vero Beach’s current “Horn Man” playing his horns.
Perry Morgan Jr., the current horn man, would attend football games with his father, Perry Morgan Sr., where he’d sit with a set of six horns that Morgan Sr. blew when Vero Beach scored a touchdown or made a big play.
When the elder Morgan died at 79 years old in 2023, his son decided to continue his legacy.
Per FHSAA Policy 3.1.4: Noisemakers, whistles, or artificial noisemaking devices that mimic or simulate a game whistle, air horns, and all other artificial or mechanical noisemaking devices are prohibited in all Florida High School State Championship Series events.
For the Dec. 13 championship game, Morgan Jr. cannot blow his horns due to Florida High School Athletic Association regulations.
He also was not allowed to play the horns when Vero hosted Miami Palmetto on Dec. 5 at the Citrus Bowl.
