Winners and losers from Georgia football's 38-14 win vs. Vanderbilt

The Georgia Bulldogs had another SEC football matchup with the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday at Sanford Stadium. It was a good contest between both teams, but Georgia got the victory, 38-14.

Georgia held just a 21-14 lead and halftime and got a fortunate play in the second half with tight end Lawson Luckie got a big play off a deflected pass.

"We really needed this kind of game, tough, physical, hard-fought," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said after the game. "Punch, punch back. Punch, punch back. Because that's how you play in the SEC. So I was proud of our guys for that. Probably played the most complete game we've played so far in terms of all the way around, and responded well in the second half."

Winners and losers from the Georgia-Vanderbilt game

Winner: Georgia RB Dwight Phillips

Georgia Bulldogs running back Dwight Phillips Jr. (20) runs with the ball during the Georgia Spring football game

Georgia running back Dwight Phillips Jr. had a good performance with five catches for 75 yards and a touchdown. He led the team in receiving as well. His touchdown was in the 4th quarter, with a 12-yard reception thrown by quarterback Gunner Stockton to put them up 38-14. Phillips has rushed for 160 yards so far this season.

"Dwight’s awesome," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said on Phillips. "He's a great kid to be around. Enjoyed to be with. We were trying to find ways to get touches and he capitalized on a lot of his moments when he got a chance.”

“That's what part of being a good player is. You take advantage of the opportunity you're presented with, and he's done that.”

Winner: Georgia RB Bo Walker

Georgia running back Bo Walker was able to get some snaps with a few of their backs out with injuries. Walker led the team with 71 rushing yards on five carries. Walker is someone who could see more of the field for the Bulldogs and is one to look out for.

Winner: Vanderbilt QB Blaze Berlowitz

Vanderbilt quarterback Blaze Berlowitz started the game due to the injury to Jared Curtis. Berlowitz went 12/23 for 190 yards and a touchdown, with an interception. Not a bad showing for the senior quarterback.

Loser: Vanderbilt's offensive line

The Commodores' offensive line didn't do that well in the game, giving up two sacks. The Vanderbilt offense overall didn't do that great, only rushing for 85 yards and getting 13 first downs to Georgia's 26. They also went 5/12 on third down.

Georgia is now 5-0 and will face 5-0 Alabama on October 10th.
