The Wisconsin Badgers delivered the best moment of their 2025 season to date on Saturday, holding on to defeat No. 24 Washington 13-10.
The win was far from pretty. The Badgers were outgained 251-205 and got only 24 total passing yards from their quarterbacks (eight from Carter Smith and 16 from Hunter Simmons). However, the team won the turnover battle 2-0, blocked a key punt in the fourth quarter and held Washington scoreless the entire second half.
Pretty or not, the win snapped the team’s 11-game losing streak against Power Four opponents. It was a critical result, especially considering the program’s recent public vote of confidence in head coach Luke Fickell.
Wisconsin fans reacted accordingly, starting with a field storming. Several former players also took to social media to join that reaction.
GRITTY win for the fellas! Build off the momentum! State Street is in trouble!

Iβm SO impressed with the way this Wisconsin Badger football team responded this week. Gritty, tough, gutsy, inspired. THAT is what Wisconsin football looks like. Proud of those guys and I stand here corrected – perhaps there is life in the program after all

THE BADGERS HAVE WON A BIG TEN FOOTBALL GAME!!!
Iβm all in on Fickell 2.0 as long as we never ever see the vest again. A lot of things have been said, a lot of losses have been had but today is a new day! #OnWisconsin

When was the last time a college football team won a game against a ranked opponent when their leading passer was a punter that threw for 24 yards??

Only fitting LBer Mason Posa got final tackle to seal long-awaited B10 win. Earlier Posa forced Demond Williams fumble triggering flashback to Leo Chenal doing the same vs Army QB in ’21. Posa has had Chenal-like impact on the UW defense with his Chenal-like intensity and play.

Thoughts from #Wisconsinβs upset of #23 Washington: The #Badgers continue to play their butts off for Luke Fickell. You can build a defense around freshman ILBs Cooper Catalano and Mason Posa. When your punter throws for as many yards (24) as your QBs, winning is not sustainable.

Us rushing the field after that is crazy lol π itβs definitely tough times
