Wisconsin football versus Notre Dame started with a catchy “Catholics vs. Alcoholics” pregame shirt. Then Badgers head coach Luke Fickell got the Big Ten underdog to hand the No. 5 Fighting Irish all they can handle. Including on the special teams side thanks to punter Sean West.
The right-legged specialist delivered one of the rare highlights inside Lambeau Field Sunday. West booted this laser accurate kick 69 yards down the field. But even better for Wisconsin? The ball never rolled inside the end zone, burying Notre Dame at the one-yard line.

West stole the show in what became an offensive struggle for both teams. He even delivered a golf-themed celebration after the flawless punt.
Wisconsin, again, struggled on offense in mustering 143 total yards through the first two quarters. Even the Badgers’ famed ground attack struggled to generate any explosive moments, netting just 43 there. Quarterback Colton Joseph settled for 9-of-17 passing for 100 yards, but tossed a 28-yard touchdown pass to Malachi Coleman.
So the Badgers received their biggest impact performer via special teams thanks to West. But Wisconsin’s defense rose to the occasion early too.
Prized Notre Dame returning quarterback CJ Carr endured a disappointing first half: 9-of-15 for 106 yards with one touchdown. Except Carr entered the half with -6 rushing yards on two carries. No Fighting Irish wide receiver caught more than three passes once halftime hit.
Wisconsin even blocked a punt early in the game, continuing to show its prowess on special teams to apply pressure onto Notre Dame. Now the Badgers have the No. 4 ranked team on the ropes after Wisconsin came in as a massive underdog.
