Wisconsin Badgers football coach Luke Fickell has earned a surprising spot in The Sporting News’ national rankings.
Fickell, who has a 17-21 overall record in Madison, still has a ton of intangibles that made him one of the most highly regarded coaches in the nation before he signed with Wisconsin.
Not much has gone right for the 52-year-old so far with the Badgers, but that doesn’t mean the potential is there. Fickell and his crew have put together a stellar class of 2027, one they’re hoping can reshape this rebuild and get things back on track.
Ahead of the 2026 season, Bill Bender ranked all 136 coaches in college football. Nationally, Fickell earned himself a No. 37 overall ranking.
For reference, Bender had him No. 29 the year prior. That’s quite a significant drop, but at the end of the day, Fickell is still believed to not just be a Top 50 coach, but among the Top 37 in the entire country.
