Wisconsin's Abu Sama, Malachi Coleman upgraded for Big Ten opener at Penn State

MADISON – Wisconsin’s updated availability report for the Big Ten opener at Penn State revealed some good news Sept. 24.

Running back Abu Sama and receiver Malachi Coleman have been upgraded from questionable to probable for the contest that kicks off at 4 p.m. Sept. 26 at Beaver Stadium in University Park, Pennsylvania.

Both players missed the Badgers' game against Eastern Michigan last weekend. Sama said this week that he was dealing with a shoulder issue but that he expected to play. Coleman has been out since suffering a head injury in the second quarter against Western Illinois Sept. 12.

There were no other changes to the Badgers' report.

The only updates for Penn State involved linebacker Cam Smith and cornerback Christian Askew. Both players were downgraded from questionable for the game to out.  Nittany Lions star receiver Koby Howard also will miss the game due an undisclosed injury.

Here is how the availability report looks for Wisconsin

Out: cornerback Cai Bates, receiver Jaylon Domingeaux, offensive lineman Michael Roeske and defensive tackle Xavier Ukponu.

Questionable: running back Bryan Jackson, right guard Emerson Mandell and tight end Ryan Schwendeman.

 Probable: running back Abu Sama, receiver Malachi Coleman, linebacker Mason Posa, receiver Eugene Hilton, quarterback Danny O’Neil and right tackle Kevin Heywood.

Out: receiver Koby Howard, defensive end Lavar Arrington II, cornerback Joshua Johnson, defensive end Max Granville, linebacker Cam Smith, cornerback Christian Askew, cornerback Tyler Armstead, defensive end Mason Robinson, defensive end Dayshaun Bennett, offensive lineman Will Tompkins, tight end Cooper Alexander.

Questionable: offensive lineman Brock Riker, offensive lineman Dominic Rulli, receiver Ethan Black, tight end Andrew Rappleyea.

Probable: safety Omarion Davis.
