Just when you think the LSU staff might slow down, they continue to gain steam and keep the recruiting trail hot.

On Sunday afternoon, Gary Burney Jr. flipped his commitment from Willie Fritz and the Houston Cougars to Lane Kiffin and the Tigers, becoming the latest addition to LSU’s 2027 recruiting class.

Burney, a 6’4″, 185-pound wide receiver from Bossier City, mentioned that he wanted to take an official visit to get a feel for the new LSU staff after receiving an offer from the Tigers on May 30. Apparently, the visit went extremely well, as Burney loved the vision the staff laid out for both him and the program moving forward.

Burney had recently committed to Houston before receiving his LSU offer, but the Tigers were able to change the trajectory of his recruitment in a short period of time.

LSU continues to add size to its wide receiver room. The Tigers recently landed Cade Cooper, who stands 6’3″, and now add Burney with his 6’4″ frame. Burney is an in-state prospect coming off an electric junior season in which he recorded 76 receptions for 1,367 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Tiger fans should not be dismayed, however. Burney’s commitment does not mean LSU is moving on from Easton Royal. Royal recently completed his official visit to Texas and stated that his commitment remains firm, but also noted that there are still some things he and his mother need to discuss.

The Tigers continue to push hard on the recruiting trail, having secured 10 commitments in the past 14 days. LSU is not finished yet and remains heavily involved with both Jalen Brewster and Easton Royal. The Tigers are also in position to potentially flip a linebacker who is currently committed to a Big 12 program.
