WR Nick Marsh leaves Michigan State and transfers to Indiana football

Nick Marsh is staying in the Big Ten, just not with Michigan State football.

Marsh, a former River Rouge standout and starter for the Spartans, has committed to Indiana, his mother Yolanda Wilson confirmed to the Free Press on Sunday, Jan. 4. Marsh has two years of eligibility remaining, and was among three dozen MSU players in the portal.

Over two seasons at MSU, the 6-foot-3, 203-pound Marsh caught 100 passes for 1,311 yards and nine touchdowns. He finished this season with 59 catches for 662 yards and six scores, all team highs, to earn All-Big Ten honorable mention.

In 2024, Marsh set an MSU freshman record with 649 receiving yards and 41 catches, tying for the team lead with three TDs.

Michigan State does not play Indiana in the regular season until 2027, at Spartan Stadium.

Michigan State wide receiver Nick Marsh (6) celebrates a touchdown against Maryland during the first half at Ford Field in Detroit on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2025.

The Hoosiers, under coach Curt Cignetti, are ranked No. 1 in the nation and will face No. 5 Oregon in the College Football Playoff semifinals Friday in Atlanta (7:30 p.m., ESPN) in the Peach Bowl. The Hoosiers won their first Big Ten title since 1967 this season, and are in their second straight CFP.

Marsh is a big loss for new MSU coach Pat Fitzgerald, hired Dec. 1 to replace Jonathan Smith. Smith was fired after two seasons. Marsh maintained his commitment to the Spartans after Smith replaced Mel Tucker, who was fired during the 2023 season, but entered the portal after the school fired Smith on Nov. 30 after two seasons.

The Spartans also reportedly are losing offensive lineman Cooper Terpstra to Central Florida, according to On3.com. Terpstra, a 6-4, 313-pound redshirt sophomore, made his first career start at center for the Spartans in their season-ending win over Maryland on Nov. 29.
