WWE legend Goldberg's son considers wresting career after playing for Deion Sanders

The son of WWE wrestling legend Goldberg is considering following in father’s footsteps to the professional wrestling ring after his football career is over.
Gage Goldberg, a linebacker at Colorado under coach Deion Sanders, discussed the potential career move Wednesday, Sept. 30, on the Colorado Football Coaches Show. He just had one of his best games as a college player with two tackles in a 23-13 loss at Baylor last week. Gage Goldberg is in his third year as a Colorado non-scholarship player but already is trying to outdo his father, a Hall of Fame wrestler.
“You would think about going and do what your dad did for a number of years?” asked Mark Johnson, the show’s host.
“Yes, sir, it’s definitely there,” Gage Goldberg said.
Goldberg, the father, whose full name is Bill Goldberg, is a former defensive tackle and teammate of Sanders with the Atlanta Falcons who often attends Colorado games.
Gage Goldberg, the son, is on the rise at Colorado as backup linebacker who is likely to get more playing time Saturday at home against Texas Tech after starting linebacker Tyler Martinez underwent surgery because of a leg injury.
He said his father didn’t want him to go into wrestling “whatsoever” when he was younger.
“Once I started getting involved a little bit, then it started to change,” Gage Goldberg said. “It’s up to me. So, I mean, I would love to do it. Honestly, I would love to have that opportunity to do it, and I feel like it would be a great thing to do after football.”

Gage Goldberg acknowledged he’s been “targeted” or spotlighted his whole life because of his father.
“What I want to do is be better than my dad,” Gage Goldberg said.
But he’s also different from this father, sort of. Johnson asked Sanders if the son reminds him of the father.
“No,” Sanders said.
Sanders then said he wanted to “take that back.”
“His dad was really quiet, really to himself,” Sanders said. “We used to go out all the time. We used to go out to places I can’t talk about on here back in the day. But we both changed.”
Sanders remembered getting hit out of bounds on a punt return with the Falcons, triggering a reaction from Goldberg. Sanders said Goldberg “slammed” the opposing player who did it and got fined.
“Goldie was my guy,” Sanders said. “So that’s why we got young Goldie here.”
WWE character in the making at Colorado?
Young Goldie has developed somewhat of a reputation on the team, whose record this season is 2-2. Colorado assistant linebackers coach Andre’ Hart called him a “warrior” who’s getting “better and better” since his high school days in Boerne, Texas.
“Every time I see Goldberg, I just think of him in a Viking uniform with a big sword and just screaming as he charges by himself into an army of villains just by himself,” Hart said. “He don't care … I’m telling you man.”
The WWE should take notice. A young Goldie warrior Viking might be on the way.
