Miami (FL) football faces an injury pileup before facing Clemson on Saturday. Now cornerback Xavier Lucas has added to it.
Lucas joins seven different Hurricanes who landed on the injury report before the huge showdown. Miami versus Clemson marks the first Atlantic Coast Conference battle featuring the No. 1 and No. 2 team in the conference.
Still, the ‘Canes look ravaged in the secondary before facing an upset-minded Tigers team. He’s one of three different defensive backs who are injured along with OJ Frederique and Ja’Boree Antoine. All three will miss this showdown against Clemson coach Dabo Swinney and the 3-1 Tigers.

But Miami and coach Mario Cristobal present hefty firepower on offense that speaks to a possible rout occurring. Quarterback Darian Mensah has put together Heisman Trophy-like numbers including throwing more touchdown passes than incompletions. Wide receiver Malachi Toney is another who’s off to a fast start. Both Mensah and Toney have rewritten school record books in their first season together in Coral Gables.
Miami’s only probable injured player is linebacker Ezekiel Marcelin Jr. Everyone else is listed as out, including two skill position players on offense. Running back CharMar Brown and wide receiver Joshua Moore are two who won’t join Mensah and Toney on the field.
Meanwhile, NFL scouts likely will become fixated on Mensah on the field. Especially as his draft stock continues to grow, including potentially becoming the No. 1 pick come April. That’ll mean Miami produces its second top pick since former quarterback Cam Ward in the 2025 draft class.
