‘You’re welcome’ – Lane Kiffin’s blunt admission on being back at Ole Miss with LSU

LSU Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin reflected on his past with the Ole Miss Rebels after losing 32-24 in his first game back in Oxford.
Kiffin didn’t receive a warm welcome from the Rebels, chanting curse words at him from the second he got off the LSU team bus to the game.
The intense atmosphere led to a close 32-24 win for Ole Miss, who almost blew a 17-point lead in the win. But everyone mainly wanted to know how Kiffin felt in his first game as the rival coach in Oxford.

Coach Kiffin spoke to reporters after the game and shared his blunt thoughts on the atmosphere created by the fans for this highly anticipated CFB matchup.
“I think you walked into a storm. That’s what happens a lot of times in these games. You see it all the time with college football. You walk in, it’s a buildup. The stadium was full an hour early, so I guess I had to leave to get them to do that. So, you’re welcome.”
Even though Kiffin left with a loss, he had to make a comment on the strong football culture the school has developed, primarily just to oppose him.
The program saw its first-ever CFP appearance last season, built on the back of Kiffin but carried to the end by current HC Pete Goulding, who replaced Kiffin after he was asked to step down midseason because he was leaving the program for LSU in 2026.
This was arguably the biggest game on both teams’ schedules to start the season, and Ole Miss landed a huge first punch to the coach that kickstarted their current era of success before leaving them.

Kiffin also shared a positive message about his experience with the school and how emotional this game was.
“A lot of emotions of gratefulness for this place, and the six years went well beyond football. First time coming in here without my dad. It was a lot.”
It was really emotional, but not as much as I thought I would have felt from all the name-calling we got off the bus. It was much more… Just a lot of gratitude for this place and the people that changed my life. Way bigger than winning a football game.”
The Rebels remain undefeated to start the season and could be a top-five ranked team in the country by next week. The Tigers, who came into the game ranked No. 7 in CFB, are bound to crash after this high-stakes loss.
