Welcome back to our countdown to the 2026 Iowa football season! 

Since May 28, we've been counting down the final 100 days until the Hawkeyes swarm out of the Kinnick Stadium tunnel for their season opener against Northern Illinois on Sept. 5. 

Each day of the countdown has primarily featured an article profiling one of the current members of the 2026 Hawkeyes based on their jersey number. Loyal readers already know this, but in case you're new, here's how this works: if a player wears No. 14 and we're 14 days until kickoff, that's the player we're going to be taking a look at. 

Since no college football team issues a jersey from 1-100, we've had to mix things up with some innovative pieces on those off days, but that's not going to be the case anymore since we're under two weeks until the season. 

Today marks 11 days until kickoff, so that means it's time to take a look at the two men who wear No. 11 – wide receiver Brody Schaffer and defensive back Jacob Wallace. 

Get to know them both here. 

Brody Schaffer 

Hometown: Winneconne, Wisconsin 

High School: Winneconne High School 

Year: First-Year 

Height: 6-foot-1 

Weight: 195 pounds 

Schaffer's Career So Far 

Schaffer hasn't played a college football game yet, but he comes to Iowa City with a lot of promise. Schaffer was one of the top high school players from the state of Wisconsin, and he pretty much single-handedly captained Winneconne to a state championship during his senior season. 

Schaffer played quarterback and defensive back in high school, and you might as well flip a coin to see which position he was better at. The 6-foot-1 Schaffer tossed 1,883 yards and 20 touchdowns through the air and rushed for 1,198 yards and 23 scores as a quarterback, while also collecting 40 tackles and two interceptions on defense. Those defensive numbers may have been higher, but it's likely opposing offenses were afraid to throw the ball anywhere near Schaffer's direction. 

Schaffer was the Bay Conference's defensive back and offensive player of the year, and it didn't take long for the state's lone major program – Wisconsin – to show interest.

Ranked as a three-star recruit and the No. 2 player in the state by 247Sports composite, Schaffer held offers from the Badgers, Iowa, Northwestern, North Dakota State, and others before choosing to play for the Hawkeyes. 

Some Iowa fans may question bringing in a wide receiver who played quarterback in high school, but Schaffer was a wideout for his first two seasons before moving to quarterback. He also was a standout kick returner, too, totaling a combined 460 yards and three scores on kick and punt returns. 

Jacob Wallace 

Hometown: Upper Marlboro, Maryland 

High School: DeMatha Catholic High School 

Year: Second-Year 

Height: 5-foot-10 

Weight: 186 pounds

Wallace's Career So Far 

Wallace played in three games last season. All were on special teams, with Wallace registering three tackles in the regular season finale against Nebraska and two in the ReliaQuest Bowl victory over Vanderbilt. 

It was a small sample size, but Wallace's tape really impressed both the Iowa media in the press box and his coaching staff. He's a fantastic athlete, and all you have to do to see that is go back and watch the tape that day in Lincoln or look up his high school numbers. 

He was a standout cornerback at DeMatha Catholic (outside of Washington D.C.), tallying seven interceptions as a senior, but the most impressive thing that stands out may be the fact that he was a 2024 McDonald's Basketball All-America nominee, which means he was one of the finalists to play in the prestigious McDonald's All-American Game. 

The former three-star recruit is still a bit of an unknown in Iowa City at this point, but considering how wide-open the secondary is right now, then there's a good chance we'll b be seeing Wallace in Phil Parker's defense in 2026.
