2027 5-star OL is reportedly close to shutting down his recruitment

Texas A&M's six five-star commitments in the No. 1-ranked recruiting class have begun their final high school seasons this month, including the Aggies' prized commit, five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews began his senior season at the prestigious, St. Thomas Aquinas, coming off Saturday's dominant win over DeSoto, as the 6'5", 300-pound left tackle is more than talented enough to start for the Aggies next season.
However, the focus for coach Mike Elko and offensive line coach Adam Cushing is securing Matthews' signature during Early Signing Day later this year, and based on several interviews this summer, Matthews remains "all in" with the Aggies, mainly due to his strong relationship with both coaches, while Elko's vision for Texas A&M's future is too bright to pass up.
After Saturday's win, Matthews spoke to GigEm247 (subscription required) insider Cade Draughon about his current status with Texas A&M, which has yet to change in the slightest, while assistant head coach and running backs coach Trooper Taylor, who also serves as A&M's ace recruiter, all deserves a ton of credit for building the framework that led to Matthews choosing the Aggies over in-state Miami.
"I guess you could say he was one of the bigger factors besides Coach Cushing and Coach Elko," Matthews stated to GigEm247. "I love Coach Troop."
When asked about his potential recruitment shutdown, which has yet to receive an official answer, the blue-chip OL is reportedly close to officially announcing that he intends to sign with Texas A&M and release a public statement on X soon.
"Oh yeah," he said. "I'm gonna make a post."
Mark Matthews joins fellow five-star OL Kennedy Brown, and four-star tackles DeMarrion Johnson and Kaeden Scott as the four offensive line commitments in the Aggies' 2027 cycle.
